I am influenced by my longing to return to the comfort and stability of home, which I satisfy through creation of work with the ability to establish intimate connections. Through the labor-intensive act of making, I establish a close personal relationship with my work. Images drawn from photographs document my memories and experiences. Repetitious surface patterning revels my need to create order and balance, to make sense of the chaos of the world.
The functionality of the work facilitates transference of this intimate bond: the familiarity of tableware offers ease in experiencing a similar feeling of connectedness. Slight variations make each individual piece a perfect addition to any collection. My memories and experiences are carved onto objects meant to be used and collected: as a way to preserve the past and offer stability in an often overwhelming world.
